Here we go again
As these things are done, so it shall be. A little introduction post to get things started.
How do you do? As seems to be the custom on Bear blogs, I'm taking the time to write a little welcome post, as it were.
I've had a blog in one form or another since the early 2000's with my first CanalBlog, the French blog host. I've hopped around since then. Blogger, WordPress1, Tumblr to name a few.
Although I still have a Tumblr, it just wasn't working as an actual blog. I'd go there and just get distracted and my posts weren't really in line with anything else I reblogged. And since I had fun with CSS and HTML when I used self-hosted WordPress, I know I wanted to go back to something I could have fun with but didn't want to use databases and that was more intuitive to post with.
I originally thought I'd use a VPS and create myself a static website with one of the self-hosted Fediverse-supported blog platforms2. However, it's a lot of work to get off the ground, and would take waaaay more spoons that I have available at the moment.
The desire to actively blog again was getting out of hand and something needed to be done, in comes me checking out the website of one of my Fedi moots. Lo and behold, they use Bear to host their blog and I always check platforms I've never heard of before.
It must've been fate, because I ended signing-up a few days later and upgrading within hours of getting an account, I liked it so much. It has the best of both worlds: I can have fun with CSS and HTML and I can post easily using Markdown in a distraction free environment. Also, the community around here looks really great, and that's always a plus.
I still had to fuss around a bit, which is why although the blog was created on Saturday, 1st February 2025, today is my first post. And I'm kinda forcing myself to post and get it done, even though I haven't created all the pages I want to have, because I know myself enough that I'll never be 100% satisfied, so if I wait to post until it's done, it's never gonna happen...
So here we are. My first post. And another post already scheduled for the 27th.3 That being said, I will most likely not be posting every day or even every week. And there might be spurts of many posts several days in a row and stretches of silence, thanks to both my ADHD and my chronic health issues, so I will make no promises for any kind of consistency.
However, I do have several post that have been percolating at the back of my goblin brain for a long time, so I want to finally put pen to paper (so to speak). And I do want to start writing more often again, as it's something I enjoy and have been missing.
In any case, this blog is finally live and that's what matters right now.
